Romans

Passing the western perimeter of Woodlands, it follows to the west of the A638. This divides the estate from the Red House industrial park. Re-joining the Great North Road at the Red House interchange.

Anglo Saxons

After unearthing human remains when preparing for the construction of the brand-new North Ridge Community School in December 2007, Archaeologists from ARCUS were called in.  The new special needs School was to be built adjacent to North Doncaster Technology College (now Outwood Academy Adwick).

They discovered 40 graves; 37 containing skeletal remains. These were dated between 660 AD and 880 AD, the Middle Saxon period. Future artifacts will be archived in Doncaster Museum.

It is believed to be the first Anglo-Saxon/early medieval cemetery of this type found in South Yorkshire and considered to be the most significant Anglo-Saxon finds in the UK.
